In 2010 the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) approved the name Copernicium for the element of atomic number 112. This name was proposed by the Gesselschaft für Schwerionenforschung team that were acknowledged as the discoverers of the new element (Pure Appl. Chem., 2009, Vol. 81, 1331-1343) by the Joint Working Party of IUPAC and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP).
