The descriptive text was completely rewritten and expanded.
An account was given of the World Magnetic Model 2005, a mathematical model
from which the earth’s magnetic field components may be calculated. A
table of current values of the coefficients used in this model was included and
a link provided to the British Geological Survey website on which charts and
other data were displayed. The tables of ‘Magnetic elements at London
since 1580’ and of ‘Geomagnetic data 1990’ were omitted.
